PSG in a Champions League final. Right. So it has actually happened then. The project that used to be the most expensive ego parade in world football, a rotating door of sulking superstars who could not be bothered pressing unless the cameras were on them, has somehow turned into something that genuinely looks like a proper football team. Credit where it is due, Luis Enrique has done something remarkable in Paris.
Because let us not forget what he inherited. A dressing room that had Mbappe sulking about his image rights, Neymar treating the season like a gap year, and a squad that basically needed a therapist on the bench more than a tactical coach. The whole thing was a mess dressed up in expensive kit. And now look at them. Organised, hungry, collective. It is honestly a bit jarring to watch.
Which brings us to Arsenal. Of course it does. Because the universe apparently has a season ticket at the Emirates and loves watching Gooners suffer. After years of getting close and falling away in the league, the reward is a Champions League final against the most in form and well drilled side in Europe right now. Brilliant. Just brilliant.
Here is the thing though. Arsenal under Arteta have been building something real too. Not the Invincibles, not yet, maybe not ever, but something with actual substance. The pressing, the structure, the belief that was not there three or four years ago is absolutely there now. This is not a team that will roll over. They will turn up with a plan and the legs to execute it.
But PSG right now are the complete package as the saying goes. They defend as a unit, they transition at terrifying speed, and Enrique has created a culture where nobody is bigger than the team. That is almost unheard of in Paris. Like watching someone tame an actual lion.
Arsenal will need everything to go right. Every press, every set piece, every moment of concentration. One lapse and PSG will make them pay. It is going to be an absolutely brilliant watch.
