Biography
Early Life
Alexander Isak was born on September 21, 1999 in Solna, Sweden. He was raised in a Stockholm suburb and joined AIK's youth academy as a child. His tall, powerful frame combined with an elegant first touch and eye for goal was unmistakeable from an early age. He was dubbed the new Zlatan β a comparison he has handled with remarkable maturity.
Breakthrough
Real Madrid signed Isak at 17 for Β£6.5M β and immediately sent him on loan. He ended up at Dortmund, then Borussia's reserve team, before Real Sociedad gave him a real opportunity. He scored 17 La Liga goals in 2020-21 and Newcastle United's Saudi owners paid Β£63M to bring him to England.
Career
At Newcastle, Isak has been the bright light amid the chaos of a club in transition. His goals per minute ratio is among the Premier League's best when fit, and his combination of technique, intelligence, and aerial ability makes him one of Europe's most complete forwards. Injuries have been the only frustration in an otherwise excellent Newcastle career.
Personal Life
Isak is calm, articulate, and thoughtful in how he carries himself. He has spoken about the unique pressure of being compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic from his teenage years, and how he learned to embrace rather than resist the comparison by simply being himself. He is close to his family in Sweden.
Legacy
One of the Premier League's best strikers on his day. If Newcastle can build a title-challenging team around Isak's quality, the career that was promised in his AIK days will finally find its peak stage.
