Biography
Early Life
Born in Córdoba, Argentina on April 27, 1998, Cristian Romero — known as Cuti — came through Belgrano's youth system before joining Juventus as a teenager. He had barely played professional football before the Italian giants brought him to Europe, identifying the raw material of a future elite defender.
Breakthrough
Juventus immediately loaned him to Genoa and then Atalanta, where the transformation happened. Under Gian Piero Gasperini's intense pressing system, Romero became a ferocious, dominant centre-back — one of Serie A's best. He won Serie A's Defender of the Year award and Spurs paid a permanent fee of £55M.
Career
At Tottenham, Romero established himself as one of the Premier League's most physically imposing defenders — aggressive, powerful, and surprisingly comfortable on the ball. He was a key figure in Argentina's World Cup triumph in 2022 and Copa America wins in 2021 and 2024, forming an elite partnership with Lisandro Martínez in the national team.
Personal Life
Romero is known as a fierce competitor who will do whatever it takes to win. That intensity has occasionally landed him in trouble with referees, but it's the same quality that makes him almost unplayable on his best days. He is close to his family back in Córdoba.
Legacy
A World Cup winner and one of the best centre-backs of his generation. Still only in his late twenties — the peak years are ahead of him.
