Biography
Early Life
Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born on February 5, 1985, on the island of Madeira, Portugal. He grew up in poverty in a cramped house with his three siblings. His father worked as a kit man at a local club, and from an early age it was clear the youngest child had something extraordinary.
Breakthrough
Ronaldo moved from Sporting CP to Manchester United in 2003 for £12.24 million aged just 18, after a pre-season friendly in which he tormented United's defenders so badly that they begged Sir Alex Ferguson to sign him. He spent six electric years at Old Trafford before Real Madrid came calling.
Career
At Real Madrid, Ronaldo became a machine. Four Champions League titles. Four Ballon d'Ors with Los Blancos. A record 450 goals in 438 appearances. He then moved to Juventus and later returned to Manchester United before a controversial exit took him to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia — where he continued breaking records at an age when most players had retired.
Personal Life
Off the pitch, Ronaldo is inseparable from his children — four in total, with his partner Georgina Rodriguez. He is obsessive about his fitness regime, reportedly sleeping five 90-minute sleep sessions per day, and follows an extremely strict diet. He doesn't drink alcohol and famously removed Coca-Cola bottles from a press conference to the company's dismay.
Legacy
The most followed person on Instagram on Earth. A man who turned himself from a flashy teenager into a relentless scoring machine through sheer will. Whatever you think about the Messi debate, Ronaldo's dedication to self-improvement is unlike anything football has seen.
