Biography
Early Life
Born on August 3, 1996, in Los Palacios y Villafranca near Seville, Fabián Ruiz comes from the heartland of Spanish football — Andalusia, where technique is taught before tactics. He came through the Real Betis academy, developed a left foot of rare elegance, and at 21 made the move to Italian football that would define his career.
Breakthrough
At Napoli, Fabián became one of the most technically complete central midfielders in Serie A — left-footed, physically imposing at 6ft 2in, and with a passing range that could open any defence. He spent four years in Naples before PSG paid €23 million in 2022 — arguably one of the bargains of that transfer window. He then won the Coppa Italia with Napoli before that departure.
Career
In Paris, Fabián has been a key cog in the midfield alongside Vitinha. His crowning international moment came at Euro 2024, where he was instrumental in Spain's triumph — producing performances that earned him recognition as one of the best midfielders in the tournament. He arrived at PSG as a mid-tier signing and left people wondering why he wasn't discussed among Europe's elite far sooner.
Personal Life
Fabián is one of the more quiet and thoughtful members of the Spanish national squad — a player who leads through his football rather than his words. Originally from a working-class background in Seville, he has spoken about how much his roots mean to him. His size alone makes him unusual for a player of such technical refinement.
Legacy
Euro 2024 winner. Coppa Italia winner. One of Europe's most underrated midfielders for the best part of a decade. The left-footed engine from Seville who eventually got the recognition he deserved.
