Biography

Early Life

Born in Škofja Loka, Slovenia in 1993, Oblak joined Olimpija Ljubljana's youth system before Benfica signed him as a teenager. He spent several seasons on loan at various clubs developing his game before landing his move to Atlético Madrid.

Breakthrough

Oblak arrived at Atlético in 2014 for just £16M as a backup to Thibaut Courtois. When Courtois left, Oblak stepped in and immediately proved he was of the same calibre. Under Simeone's notoriously demanding system, a great goalkeeper is not just useful — it's essential.

Career

Six Zamora Trophies — awarded to the goalkeeper with the best save ratio in La Liga. La Liga champion in 2021. Europa League winner. Consistent top-3 in the goalkeeper category of every major end-of-season award. Oblak is defined by consistency: he has been world class for a decade.

Personal Life

Exceptionally private, Oblak rarely gives interviews and keeps his personal life almost entirely out of the public eye. He is known among teammates for an obsessive professionalism and a quiet, understated leadership.

Legacy

The most consistent goalkeeper in La Liga history. Six Zamora trophies in eight seasons is an achievement that may never be matched.
