Biography
Early Life
Born in Rosario, Argentina on June 24, 1987, Leo Messi grew up in a working-class family where football was everything. From the moment he could walk, he was kicking a ball. His natural ability was immediately obvious โ but so was the growth hormone deficiency that threatened to end his career before it had even started.
Breakthrough
At 11, Barcelona spotted the kid from Rosario and made a life-changing offer โ they'd fund his treatment if he moved to Spain. His father wrote the deal on a paper napkin. Messi moved to La Masia aged 13, learned Catalan, and by 17 had made his first-team debut. The napkin became legend.
Career
What followed is simply the greatest individual career in football history. Seventeen seasons at Barcelona. Eight Ballon d'Or trophies. A record-breaking 91 goals in a single calendar year. Then the move to PSG, the struggles, the redemption โ and finally, in Qatar 2022, the World Cup that completed the collection everyone said he needed.
Personal Life
Messi is famously shy and family-oriented. He married his childhood sweetheart Antonela Roccuzzo in 2017 after years together, and the couple have three sons. He has spoken openly about how homesick he was as a teenager in Barcelona, and credits his father Jorge as the backbone of his career.
Legacy
Now in Miami with the shirt number and the legacy, Messi has transformed American football almost overnight. Inter Miami went from a struggling expansion side to a global phenomenon simply because he turned up. The argument about Messi vs Ronaldo will go on forever โ but the numbers land on one side.
