Biography
Early Life
Mohamed Salah Ghaly was born on June 15, 1992 in Nagrig, a village in the Gharbia Governorate of Egypt. He travelled four hours by bus every day to train with the El Mokawloon youth academy in Cairo. His family couldn't always afford the fare, but they made it work because his talent demanded it.
Breakthrough
Salah's journey was far from linear. He struggled at Chelsea and spent time on loan at Fiorentina and Roma before the Italian club made his move permanent. At Roma he found his feet and eventually caught Liverpool's attention. Jurgen Klopp paid £34M for him in 2017 — a fee Liverpool's rivals mocked. Nobody's laughing now.
Career
The 2017-18 Premier League season was historic: 32 goals in 36 games, breaking the seasonal record. He has been Liverpool's heartbeat ever since — two Premier League Golden Boots, a Champions League winner, and an African Player of the Year award that he has claimed more than once. The Egyptian King became a Merseyside legend.
Personal Life
Salah is a devout Muslim who prays on the pitch after scoring and has spoken about how his faith guides him. He has used his wealth and platform generously, funding schools, hospitals, and roads in his home village of Nagrig. He is reported to have single-handedly funded the rebuilding of Nagrig's infrastructure.
Legacy
Still putting up elite numbers at 33 in the Premier League, Salah has redefined what a wide forward can do. He has given the Arab world a global sporting icon and made Liverpool's right side one of the most feared in European football for nearly a decade.
