Biography
Early Life
Neymar da Silva Santos Junior was born on February 5, 1992 in Mogi das Cruzes, Sao Paulo. His father was a former footballer who became his son's manager and biggest supporter. Growing up in poverty, Neymar showed outrageous flair from childhood — the kind of directness and creativity that you cannot coach.
Breakthrough
Santos gave him his debut at 17 and he immediately looked like a future superstar. Barcelona paid £49M in 2013 and he formed the most devastating attacking trio in modern football history with Messi and Suarez. PSG then broke the world transfer record to sign him for an astonishing £198M in 2017 — a figure that still stands today.
Career
The career narrative splits in two: before the PSG move and after. At Santos and Barcelona, he was brilliant. At PSG, the goals kept coming but so did the injuries and the drama. A series of serious ankle and knee problems robbed him of crucial years. Saudi Arabia brought another massive contract but more time on the treatment table.
Personal Life
Neymar's personal life has rarely been far from the tabloids. He has a son Davi from a previous relationship and is close to his family who relocated to wherever he played. He is known for extravagant parties, luxury fashion, and an enormous circle of friends — as well as genuine charisma and a love of card games and music.
Legacy
The most expensive transfer in football history by some distance. The talent was never in question — only the injuries that denied the world of seeing just how good he might have been. On his day, still capable of making the best players in the world look ordinary.
