Biography
Early Life
Nicolas Williams Arthuer was born on July 12, 2002 in Pamplona, Navarre. His parents emigrated from Ghana and he grew up in Spain as the younger brother of Inaki Williams, who also plays professional football. The Williams siblings have become one of football's most celebrated brotherly partnerships.
Breakthrough
Nico came through Athletic Bilbao's academy โ the club that, uniquely, only signs Basque players or players trained in the Basque Country. He made his debut at 17 and by 2024 had earned his Spain call-up. At Euro 2024, alongside Lamine Yamal, he formed the most exciting young wide partnership in international football.
Career
His performances at Euro 2024 made him one of the most coveted wide players in Europe. His direct running, explosive pace, and ability to cut inside or deliver crosses made him unstoppable in the tournament. Despite interest from Europe's biggest clubs, he remains loyal to Athletic Bilbao โ a rare and admirable stance.
Personal Life
Nico and his brother Inaki are very close and represent an inspiring story โ two children of Ghanaian immigrants who became international footballers for Spain. His family's journey from Ghana to Spain and their success in elite football has made them symbols of the multicultural nature of modern Spain.
Legacy
Still developing but already proven at the highest level. His commitment to Athletic Bilbao speaks volumes about his character. If he continues his Euro 2024 trajectory, the next decade belongs in part to Nico Williams.
