Biography
Early Life
Born in Amsterdam on June 17, 2001, Jurrien Timber grew up in Ajax's famed De Toekomst academy alongside his twin brother Quinten. The pair are among the most technically gifted siblings Dutch football has produced โ calm, intelligent, and composed on the ball from a very early age.
Breakthrough
Timber broke into Ajax's first team under Erik ten Hag in 2020 and quickly became one of the most technically accomplished young defenders in Europe. His performances earned him Netherlands caps and attracted attention across the continent. Erik ten Hag wanted to take him to Manchester United in 2022 โ Timber wisely chose Arsenal instead.
Career
He joined Arsenal in the summer of 2023 for ยฃ38M and suffered a serious ACL injury on his debut, missing the entire first season. His return in 2024 showed exactly why Arsenal paid what they did โ versatile enough to play right-back, left-back, or centre-back, and technically better than most midfielders.
Personal Life
Timber is close to his twin brother Quinten, who plays professionally in the Netherlands. The family bond is a recurring theme in his interviews. He has spoken about the mental challenge of his long injury lay-off and how he used the time to study the game in more depth.
Legacy
Still only in his mid-twenties, Timber is building towards being one of the most complete defenders in the world. The injury year may ultimately prove to be a detour rather than a derailment.
