Gyokeres as Makeweight for Alvarez, Barcola to Liverpool and Romero's Spurs Exit

Wednesday's transfer gossip has come in hot and there is plenty to chew over. Let's start with the one that will have Arsenal fans doing cartwheels and Sporting Lisbon fans doing the opposite. According to the latest reports, Arsenal are exploring the idea of using Viktor Gyokeres as part of a package to land Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. Now that is a bold move. Gyokeres has been absolutely electric in Portugal and plenty of top clubs have been sniffing around him, but using him as a makeweight is an interesting angle. It suggests Arsenal either feel they already have enough firepower up top, or they really, really want Alvarez. The Argentinian World Cup winner would be a fantastic addition to Mikel Arteta's squad, no question about it, and if Gyokeres helps get that deal over the line then fair play to Arsenal for thinking creatively.

Over at Liverpool, it seems Arne Slot is not sitting still either. The Reds have apparently made contact with Paris Saint-Germain about signing winger Bradley Barcola. The young Frenchman had a brilliant season in Ligue 1 and has bags of pace and directness that would suit Liverpool's style perfectly. PSG are not exactly a club that sells their best players cheaply, so this one could get expensive. Still, Liverpool have shown recently that when they want someone, they tend to get them, so do not be too surprised if this one starts gathering momentum.

And then there is Tottenham, who honestly cannot seem to keep their best players these days. Captain Cristian Romero is reportedly set to leave the club this summer. Losing your captain and one of your best defenders is a tough one to take regardless of what you think of Spurs. Romero has been their standout centre-back for a few years now and replacing that kind of quality is genuinely hard. It raises some serious questions about where Tottenham are headed and whether they have a project that can actually attract and keep top players.

Some massive stories developing across the top clubs and the summer is only just getting started. Let me know your thoughts.
