How does Mike Maignan compare to other players?
Compare Players →Biography
Early Life
Born in Cayenne, French Guiana in 1995, Maignan moved to mainland France as a child and joined Paris Saint-Germain's academy. He progressed through the French youth system, winning youth World Cups, before Lille offered him the first-team opportunity his talent deserved.
Breakthrough
Four seasons at Lille, including winning Ligue 1 in 2021, made him impossible to ignore. When Gianluigi Donnarumma left AC Milan on a free transfer, Milan moved quickly to sign Maignan. It looked like a downgrade from a Ballon d'Or-level goalkeeper. Instead, Maignan showed he was arguably better.
Career
Won Serie A with Milan in 2022 in his first season — the club's first title in 11 years. His athleticism and reflexes are extraordinary. He has become France's number one, ending Lloris's decade-long reign and establishing himself as one of the world's best in his own right.
Personal Life
Known for his energy and charisma — he is one of the most vocal and expressive goalkeepers in European football. He has spoken openly about experiencing racist abuse and his determination to fight it.
Legacy
The heir to a great French goalkeeping tradition. His combination of athleticism, distribution and leadership make him arguably the best goalkeeper in Serie A history's modern era.
