Biography
Early Life
Born in Almada, Portugal on June 10, 1999, Rafael Leão came through Sporting CP's academy before a controversial departure that led to a lengthy legal battle between the clubs. He moved to Lille in France where he spent one season before AC Milan identified him as one of Europe's most exciting young attackers.
Breakthrough
AC Milan paid around €35M for Leão in 2019 and initially he was inconsistent — brilliant in flashes but frustrating in equal measure. The arrival of Stefano Pioli changed that. Pioli built his system around Leão's strengths and the Portuguese winger became one of the most dangerous attackers in Europe — explosive pace, direct, technically brilliant.
Career
The highlight of Leão's career so far came in the 2021-22 season when AC Milan won their first Serie A title in eleven years. He was voted the league's best player. He has worn the iconic number 10 shirt at the San Siro and signed a lucrative long-term contract, demonstrating his commitment to the club.
Personal Life
Leão is known for his extrovert personality and fashion-forward style off the pitch. He is close to his family and has spoken about how his mother's sacrifice made his career possible. He has also been involved in music and creative projects beyond football.
Legacy
When he's on form, there are few more exciting players in the world. The challenge has always been consistency — but the talent is undeniable.
