How to play football tic tac toe
- Each row and each column shows a club or a nation. A square sits where one row and one column meet.
- On your turn, tap an empty square and search for a player who fits both its row and its column.
- A right answer places your X or O in the square with the player's name. A wrong answer leaves it empty and loses your turn.
- You get 30 seconds per turn. If the timer runs out, the turn passes.
- The first player to get three in a row, across, down or diagonally, wins. If all nine squares fill with no line, it is a draw.
Football tic tac toe FAQ
What is football tic tac toe?
Football tic tac toe is a two-player game on a 3x3 board. Every row and column shows a club or a nation, and to claim a square you name a footballer who fits both. Take three squares in a line before your opponent does and you win.
Is it the same as footy tic tac toe or soccer tic tac toe?
Yes. Footy tic tac toe and soccer tic tac toe are just other names for this game: X and O take turns, but each square has to be earned by naming a player who matches its row and column.
Can I play football tic tac toe with a friend?
Yes. The default mode is two players on the same device. Player 1 is X, Player 2 is O, and you pass the phone or keyboard back and forth each turn.
Can I play football tic tac toe alone?
Yes. Switch to vs Computer and it takes the O turns, picking an open square and answering with a real player. If you would rather solve a puzzle than beat an opponent, try the solo Football Grid game.
What happens if I name the wrong player?
The square stays empty and your turn passes to the other side. You also lose the turn if the 30-second timer runs out.
Can the same player be used twice?
Yes. A player can be named in as many squares as they fit, so a club legend with the right nationality can win you more than one square.
