Biography
Early Life
Son Heung-min was born on July 8, 1992 in Chuncheon, South Korea, into a football family — his father Son Woong-jung was a semi-professional player who became his son's first coach. Father Son trained him so intensively that Heung-min was technically polished before he was a teenager.
Breakthrough
Son moved to Germany aged 16 to train at the Hamburg SV youth academy, becoming one of the first significant Korean exports to European football at that age. He developed at Hamburg then Leverkusen before Tottenham paid £22M in 2015. The fee grew more laughable with every passing season.
Career
A decade at Tottenham has produced remarkable numbers and universal affection. He won the Premier League Golden Boot jointly with Salah in 2022 with 23 goals. He completed his South Korean military service during the COVID period — a unique obligation that could have disrupted his career but barely registered. Son simply kept scoring.
Personal Life
Son is one of the most universally liked players in football. His smile, warmth, and celebrations have made him a global ambassador for the sport. He has spoken about his father's intense training sessions as a child, acknowledging them as hard but ultimately the foundation for everything that followed.
Legacy
The greatest Asian footballer in Premier League history. An icon for South Korean football and a player who proved that elite European football was accessible to players from outside the traditional footballing nations.
