Manchester United and Tottenham are apparently both eyeing up Crysencio Summerville, the Leeds United winger who was absolutely electric in the Championship last season. The Dutchman scored 19 goals and contributed 10 assists as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion, and that kind of output in a division as physical and demanding as the Championship tends to get the big clubs reaching for their phones pretty sharpish.
Now, as a United fan, the idea of adding a genuinely exciting wide player sounds lovely on paper. But United have been linked with so many wingers over the past few years that it is becoming a bit of a running joke. The key is actually getting the deal done rather than just being mentioned in the same sentence as the player every Thursday in the gossip columns. Spurs, under Ange Postecoglou, have shown they are willing to bring in hungry, energetic players who fit a pressing style, and Summerville certainly looks like he could thrive in that environment. If both clubs are serious, this one could get interesting.
Over at Chelsea, the recruitment team clearly never sleeps. They are reportedly monitoring Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, which makes sense given their ongoing search for a long-term number one. Costa is a serious operator at club and international level for Portugal, and at 25 he fits the profile of a goalkeeper who could be their main man for the next decade. Whether Porto would sell without a massive fee is another question entirely.
Chelsea are also said to be targeting Andrea Cambiaso from Juventus, the versatile Italian who can play at left back or in midfield. He has quietly become one of the more reliable players in Serie A and would give Chelsea proper options across the defensive and midfield areas. Whether Juventus are willing to sell is the obvious stumbling block, but Chelsea have shown before that they are not shy when it comes to writing large cheques.
It is shaping up to be a busy summer window and we are not even properly into it yet. Let me know your thoughts.
