Tottenham are making serious progress in their bid to sign Manchester City winger Savinho, and this one is starting to feel like it could actually happen. The Brazilian has been one of the more exciting young wingers in the Premier League this season, and it would be a real statement signing for Spurs if they can pull it off. City, of course, are never short of wide options, so if the money is right they might well be open to selling. Ange Postecoglou would certainly welcome some pace and directness out wide, and Savinho would give them exactly that.
Meanwhile, in a twist nobody really saw coming, Manchester United are apparently going head to head with Manchester City for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson. Now as a United fan, the writer would love to see Anderson at Old Trafford, because the lad has shown real quality since joining Forest and has that tenacious, box to box energy that United have been missing for years. The fact City are also sniffing around tells you everything you need to know about how highly he is rated. Forest will not let him go cheaply, and nor should they.
Over in Spain, both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are keeping tabs on Chelsea left back Marc Cucurella. It feels like Cucurella has spent the last couple of years being written off before reminding everyone he is actually a decent player. Whether Chelsea would sell depends on their own transfer plans, but at 26 he would appeal to both clubs for different reasons. Atletico would want the defensive graft, while Barcelona would probably want him bombing forward in their system.
It is shaping up to be a busy window all round, and Spurs fans in particular will be hoping the Savinho deal crosses the line sooner rather than later. Transfer rumours can drag on forever, but the language around this one sounds more promising than your average Tuesday gossip. There is a sense that things are moving, and in the transfer market that counts for a lot.
