Sunday's transfer gossip is serving up some proper intrigue, with Arsenal and Liverpool both reportedly eyeing PSG speedster Bradley Barcola. The French winger had a genuinely brilliant season in Ligue 1 and it is no surprise that two of England's biggest clubs are keeping close tabs on him. Whether either side actually pulls the trigger is another matter entirely, but the interest makes a lot of sense on paper.
Arsenal would see Barcola as a dynamic wide option who could terrorise defenders in behind, which fits Mikel Arteta's style pretty nicely. Liverpool under Arne Slot are still shaping their identity, and a player like Barcola would certainly add a spark to what they are building. The competition between these two clubs for top targets has become something of a theme, and it makes for entertaining watching even if you support neither of them.
Elsewhere, Brighton have rejected a bid from Coventry for goalkeeper Carl Rushworth. Coventry clearly need cover and Rushworth is a solid young keeper, but Brighton are not in the business of selling their better assets cheaply and that reputation is well earned. Expect Coventry to come back in with a slightly better offer, or move on to their next option pretty sharpish.
The most interesting bit of the day's gossip though involves Marcus Rashford, who is apparently now attracting interest from Bayern Munich, potentially ahead of Barcelona in the race for his signature. As a Manchester United fan, this writer will resist the urge to say too much other than it is a real shame things got to this point. Rashford is a talented player who lost his way badly, and Bayern would be a tough place to rediscover form. Barcelona made sense as a fresh start, but Bayern at least offers regular Champions League football and a serious competitive environment. Whether he can take that chance is the big question.
Sunday gossip is always a mixed bag of genuine leads and absolute nonsense, but there is enough here to keep supporters of the clubs involved checking their phones all day. Let me know your thoughts.
