Wednesday's transfer gossip has arrived and it's a decent one. Tottenham are being encouraged to throw their hat into the ring for Sandro Tonali, the Newcastle midfielder who has had a bit of a turbulent couple of years to say the least. After serving a ban for betting violations, Tonali has been working his way back to his best and it sounds like there's a proper three-way scrap developing for his signature. Spurs fancying him makes sense actually — they could do with some genuine quality and graft in the middle of the park, and Tonali when he's on it is a seriously good footballer.
Over in Madrid, Real are apparently plotting a move for Ruben Dias. Now that is interesting. Dias has been one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League for years and you can understand why a club like Real Madrid would come sniffing. The question is whether Manchester City would even entertain selling him, and whether Dias himself fancies the move. Pep Guardiola doesn't exactly let his best defenders walk out the door without a fight, so this one could get complicated quickly.
And then there's the one that, as a Manchester United fan, feels a bit closer to home. United have apparently put a valuation on Marcus Rashford. The fact that they're putting a number on him rather than insisting he stays tells you everything you need to know about where things stand between the two parties. Rashford is a brilliant talent on his day but the last year or so has been difficult to watch. If the right offer comes in and Marcus genuinely wants a fresh start somewhere, it's probably best for everyone to move on. United need the funds and Rashford needs the spark back in his football.
All three stories have genuine legs to them and could develop into major moves before the window slams shut. Tonali at Spurs would be exciting, Dias at Real would be huge for the Premier League, and Rashford leaving Old Trafford would be one of the stranger chapters in recent United history. Let me know your thoughts.
